My version of Don Clemente’s Loteria (Bingo) Game is FOLK ART CATS, with a Mexican flavor. Each original is lovingly painted and filled with colorful cut paper throughout. Every cat will be printed as playing cards, and will have a Spanish and English title, a card number and a Riddle to play. There will be 54 cats total. When I first started painting, I was disappointed at the primitive style that showed up on my canvases. As a professional illustrator, capturing details were challenging with a paint brush compared to using pens and pencils. I began to explore other artists that had this style and fell in love with Folk Art. It was the closest interpretation of what I was creating. After thrifting at a local antique store, I found some rustic old serving trays, and that began the application of my Folk Art into tangible items, which historically are crafted and used within a traditional community. Folk arts reflect the cultural life of a community, and encompasses the expressive culture associated with the fields of folklore and cultural heritage. Living in the desert community of Tucson, Arizona, my paintings are filled with warm colors, Spanish and Mexican influences and desert animals. Painting in this method is a welcome break from some of the detailed work involved in other works that I produce.

Living in a rural area of Tucson’s vast desert community, I have been able to relish wild animals on a daily bases. The first day I moved here, I sat in my front yard and was welcome by a huge, magnificent jack rabbit that came up from his burrow from under an old craggily cactus. He was breathtaking! I then looked to my right and walking down the dirt road by my house were 3 coyotes! Good morning wild desert! Roadrunners, quail, desert cotton tails run abundantly around and through my yard. I have just begun to explore these fabulous creatures as my art subjects, in a variety of mediums such as folk art painting on wood, mixed media pieces and mcm illustrations
