About the Artist

As an artist, my work combines a whimsical and eclectic figurative style, featuring thought-provoking portrayals of women and desert wildlife. Living in Tucson, Arizona, my art is infused with the bold warmth of the desert using rich colors that reflect my surroundings. I enhance the texture and depth of each piece by incorporating diverse papers such as Mulberry, rice, and vintage fabrics, offering a unique visual experience. My background in cartooning adds a playful touch of whimsy to the characters I depict, making my work truly distinctive.

After over forty years in the graphic design business, I was inspired by my father who began creating beautiful oil paintings at the age of 70. Encouraged by his late-blooming artistic journey, I ventured into the fine arts field, and for the last decade, I have been developing my style, working in acrylics, mixed media, graphite, and papier-mâché sculptures. This exploration has allowed me to refine my technique and broaden my artistic horizons.

Inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Palm Springs, California, where I was born in 1959, my art intricately weaves elements of mid-century modern aesthetics, classic Spanish architecture, and the vibrant arts of Native American, Old Western, and Hispanic traditions. My travels to Borrego Springs, California, an international dark sky community known for its retro architecture and old desert charm, have rekindled my mid-century modern influences. Taking a new approach to typical realistic wildlife art, I developed a line of desert animals with a bold, modern twist. This collection has become popular and has featured in 2 solo shows, and now in the 2026 Heatwave Summer show with a return of many beloved desert animals as well as some new pieces that further explore the deserts delicious colors as well as some edgy concepts.

The compelling allure of the Southwest, rich with mystery and warmth, serves as a constant muse in my creative process. Tucson’s vibrant blend of color, architecture, and cultural influences provides a dynamic backdrop for my artwork.

My technique blends my diverse background in cartooning, illustration, and graphic design to craft a distinctive aesthetic. By incorporating specialty papers and unique materials, I add a special quality to my work, with each piece serving as a testament to my creative journey and artistic evolution.

“God made us to create. Every time we use our gifts, we reflect His heart to the world.”
