On the flip side of the hippy era, the mid century modern influence kept on groov’n in furniture and décor. As I grew up in the early 60’s, my memories of the geometric shapes, organic lines and colors were stored in my mind, to surface in 2017, when I developed my Mid Century Mod girls.
Living in Palm Springs, California was a mecca for this style in homes and even fashion. The influence in my youth of the incredible contradicting textures, was easily mixed with my sassy characters to create this hip and mod series.

The Desert has long been a fascination of mine, and the mystery of it’s inhabitants is a reminder of the constant fight for survival. How wildlife dwelling in this aggressive land, mysteriously endure, is perplexing, but is worth the time to explore. Being able to look beyond the landscape, and breath deeply the fragrance of the desert is an exceptional experience, both mediative and astonishingly energizing at the same time.
With this intrigue, I have created a unique set of Mid Century Modern illustrations of desert animals, birds and reptiles, that is a departure from typical realistic interpretations. The sense of connection with this series caused my further investigation of each animal Spirit and Totem. This development formed a distinctive voice as well as a visually modern concept for each desert creature. I invite my viewers to ponder my art, and hopefully be able to look beyond the desert’s landscape a little deeper, and be astonished.
