Painted in beautiful Kauai, this piece embodies several cultures that inhabit the island. As I was visiting a vintage shop Hanalei, I discovered a book on men’s ties from the 1930’s and 40’s. The designs were fascinating and in that era, tropical in theme. These patterns were perfect to implement into my painting, adding an interesting sultry twist. My thoughts behind this piece was to portray a woman in a different and figurative light, other than the sexual object that is so common place. She is a women of gentle beauty, strong character, and illuminates tropical allure.
